WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE PART OF OUR ‘AYLESBURIAN’ FEATURE WALL?
What is this initiative? Our ‘Inscribe a Plaque’ initiative is an opportunity for the Aylesburian Community to leave a lasting legacy and to celebrate their time at the School in our Sixth Form Common Room.
What is Our “Feature Wall”? It is in the Sixth Form Common Room and consists of individual plaques inscribed with the names of student(s) and/or their families who were inspired to donate to Aylesbury Grammar School to help improve our School facilities.
What are the plans? In recent years a number of Aylesburians have signed up to support the School by ‘Inscribing a Plaque’ with their names, houses and year to mark their time at the School. Their inscribed plaques take pride of place on our Aylesburian “Feature Wall” in the refurbished Sixth Form Centre.
Most of our current students and our Old Aylesburians continue their education into the Sixth Form here and we were pleased to receive a win a significant bid to the Department for Education to refurbish our tired Sixth Form facilities. The refurnished facility has been in use since September 2016 and it is a notable improvement. We now provide a university style environment for our senior students with The Common Room and patio area as a social space, a study room for up to 40 students downstairs and a Learning Centre upstairs for 140 students.
This is a relatively new idea and our aim is to cover an entire wall with the names of current and former students and families. It is already making quite an impact and reflects the pride many of our current and former students have for their School.
Why have we created this as an opportunity to support the School? This is a visible way to support Aylesbury Grammar School and gives a tremendously positive message about our need to ask for support. It seems fitting that, given the recent refurbishment, our “Feature Wall” is positioned in the new Sixth Form Centre.
Funds raised this year will be directed towards the much-needed refurbishment of our IT learning rooms.
