A poignant article taken from the AGS Archives’ 1953 edition of the AGS Aylesburian magazine. How Aylesbury celebrated the Coronation of ‘our young Queen Elizabeth II’.
The passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest serving monarch in our history, serves as a distinct moment in all our lives. In a complicated world, her decency and calm brought confidence to many and a serenity that has been unrivalled. Her character is what has shone through during recent events, the outpouring of emotion and the tributes from across the world. Leaders of nations, speaking of the same decency, calmness and respect that one woman showed to them and their people.
Lest we forget that a family have lost a mother, grandmother, great grandmother. This is the passing of the second Elizabethan age. Part of our schools’ history as we were founded in the first Elizabethan age.
To Her Majesty the Queen, we thank you for your service, dignity, humility, and selflessness. May you rest in peace.
