GCSE

GCSE

The curriculum remains broad in Key Stage 4.

All students study at least 11 GCSEs. All are required to study a modern language and separate sciences. Many students choose to take creative subjects (such as Art, Music, Drama or Engineering) with the majority entered and achieving the English Baccalaureate.

A wide range of subject options enable new subjects to be studied in Years 10 and 11 for GCSE examinations. These include: Ancient History, Business, Physical Education, Economics and Geology.

Highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic teachers are successful in creating a classroom environment where students enjoy learning and are eager to achieve.

Glossary

Progress 8; A measure of the progress children make between the end of primary school and the end of secondary school (Year 6 – 11). A score of +0.5 or above shows that students are making well above the expected level of progress.

Attainment 8; The average raw point score from the eight qualifications.

Progress 8 and Attainment 8 are based on students’ performance in eight qualifications. English and maths, up to three subjects from the Ebacc list, and students’ three highest scores from a range of other qualifications, including GCSEs and approved non-GCSEs. English and maths are given double weighting to reflect their importance.

Grade 5 of above; Percentage of exam results that were at least a grade 5 or above.

EBacc Average Points; The average points achieved in six core academic subjects: English, maths, history or geography, 2 sciences and a language.
