School Closure Update – 30 March 2020

After the first week of the School Closure and the Remote Home Learning Procedure, we would like to thank the whole School community for pulling together at this time.

On site, we have remained open with the core Skeleton Staff Group and the amazing volunteers who have supervised the children of our key workers. Thank you to everyone for making the first week such a success and to allow our community to function as well as possible.

We have received a number of messages of support and a few extracts are below to demonstrate the impact the staff are having:

“I would personally like to thank your team for working so hard and supporting the boys and their needs, plus the families who now have to accommodate a new routine, a challenge for us all.
Keep safe and well, and keep up the good work.”

“Thank you so much for all that the staff are doing. It must be very challenging for the staff to be providing lessons when they also have children at home with them or are coping with other issues. The work set this week has not only helped my son keep up with his learning but has also provided some semblance of normality at this difficult time.”

“Just to say how much we appreciate the school’s calm and well planned response. Thank YOU ALL.
I’m glad that we have AGS looking out for him, whilst I’m trying to work out how to adjust myself.
I hope you and your team are getting into a rhythm, our son is setting his alarm for 8am, logging on to Google classroom, reading, and not playing any computer games until the evening!! I honestly don’t put this down to us as parents, but because of the guidance and structure from AGS, as well as Aylesburian spirit!
Wishing you, the AGS teams, and your families all the best, and here’s to a #ClapforourSchools.
Your work is much appreciated.”

School Closure Staffing
We continue to accommodate between 4-7 students daily, with a couple requiring support over Easter. Our thanks to all the staff who have so far volunteered to supervise them across Phase One of the Closure.

Today, we have slimmed down the staff on School site and so the core staffing to keep the School running on site will consist of an SLT member(s), Premises team member, Caretaker, and IT team member. All other essential services can be run from home.

A member of SLT will be on site to support the supervising staff for our key worker children and we are in discussion with AHS, The Grange and SHFGS surrounding possible future collaboration.
